About Via Ferrata

Mountain Torq offers 'Walk The Torq' for beginners to spend 2 to 3 hours on the climb with opportunities to enjoy the beautiful Borneo scenery and capture breathtaking shots. This programme is particularly popular with families, school children and climbers of general fitness levels. Over 25 school groups from the United Kingdom, Singapore and Malaysia had taken this programme in the first half of 2008 alone.

For the adventure loving mountaineering enthusiasts, Mountain Torq offers the hike up to Low's Peak, Mt Kinabalu's highest point at 4,095m. This is a 4 to 5 hour programme designed for those with above average fitness levels. Upon descent from Low's Peak, climbers will take a the longer via ferrata detour "Low's Peak Circuit" from 3,800m a.s.l. above sea level where they will see stunning views and explore hidden corners of the mountain plateau. Experienced climbers from around the world have been on this programme with us and walked across one of the world's highest suspension bridge at approximately 3,600m a.s.l.

The diversity of via ferrata routes means there is something for everyone - whether he or she is 10 or 70, a keen mountaineer or a casual holidaymaker. We have a via ferrata route to match everyone's ability and endurance.


Walk The Torq

Take your first steps on Asia's first via ferrata and learn how to walk your talk at 3,570m above sea level.

This route is designed for the beginner in mind, specifically:

  • Family groups with a range of age.
  • The young (between 10 to 15 yrs old)
  • The young at heart (50 and above)

The duration of the Walk The Torq is between 2 to 3 hours peppered with frequent opportunities to take pictures and enjoy the scenery

Highlights of the Walk the Torq includes:

  • 2 cable Monkey bridge
  • Tyrolean traverse
  • Balancing beam


Low's Peak Circuit - World's highest via ferrata

Hike up to Low's Peak, Mt Kinabalu's highest point at 4,095m. On descent, take a via ferrata detour from 3,800m a.s.l. above sea level to see stunning views and explore hidden corners of the mountain plateau.This route is designed for those with above average fitness and wants to be able to do it all. Specifically;

  • Above the age of 17
  • Would like the challenge and satisfaction of summiting Low's Peak and experiencing the world's highest via ferrata within a period of 6 hours

The duration of the Low's Peak Circuit, excluding the summit attempt is on average between 4 to 5 hours with rest stops at scenic sections.
